Iqbal Wahhab was born in Bangladesh and came to Britain at the age of eight months. He was educated in London and is a graduate of the London School of Economics. After working as a journalist in the national press for three years, in 1991 he set up his own PR firm which specialised in food, drink and restaurants and then in 1994 he launched Tandoori Magazine.
He sold out of the magazine to launch the multi award winning Cinnamon Club in 2001 - a restaurant and bar aimed to change the way we view Indian dining. In 2003 he co-authored The Cinnamon Club Cookbook and in 2005 opened Roast.
A series of new commercial projects are soon to be launched.
Marcus joined us in January 2012 after having been executive chef at Brown's Hotel in Mayfair. Prior to that he had worked at Le Caprice, The Ivy and J Sheekey.
Marcus has a keen interest in seasonal produce and a keen eye for presentation, as well as having a professional career in cooking British food in some of London's leading establishments. Look out for foraged and wild ingredients coming to our future menus as well as some surprise and fun dishes too which will over the coming months take our culinary direction down some new paths whilst retaining the core of what we already do.
Our General Manager is Sergei Gubars, formerly of The Cinnamon Club. Sergei is also our head wine buyer and Roast has a Notable Wine List award from the AA.
Sergei has also been awarded the Princeton Global Network Honours. This recognition is bestowed upon only the most distinguished individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in their careers and exemplary leadership within their communities.
Sebastien Guesdon joined the team at Roast as Bar Manager in March this year. Sebastien has 15 years experience in the hospitality industry and has previously worked as a manager in similar high class establishments such as the Rivoli Bar at The Ritz Hotel and Galvin at Windows in the Hitlon Park Lane.
He is a qualified mixologist with a passion and flair for the bar industry.
He was promoted to London Chairman for the United Kingdom Bartender Guild in November 2009.
